The 1" is to large, the 15/16 too small. The grip area is so small I can't get a cresent wrench on it. Anyone with information or suggestions... I have been trying to get my speedo to work. I did get the gear out. It was 15/16 thin walled socket. I cleaned it up and it still appears to not hold the speedo cable. I don't know how to test to see if the gear is turning when the truck is moving.... i don't want to win a Darwin award for riding under the truck. Are there different size cables? This is a 4 speed tranny I put in my 50 chevy. Jack up one or both rear wheels. Put a piece of an old speedo cable or small screwdriver in the hole in the gear. Turn the driveshaft & watch the inserted tool to see if it turns. Put a little resistance on it in case it slips under load.
