taking an informal poll on how much you would be willing to spend for a complete set of all 4 suburban seats for AD(47-55) suburbans.

how much for just 4 seat frames?

how much for frames and seat springs?

I think they are same or super close in style to 55-59 also.

Yes-I know ive seen a single rear seat sell on ebay for 2500-thats ridiculous and doesnt do anything to further our passion.

There was a complete set being sold on ebay recently and it did not sell, I think the seller is a member here. I am hoping that the prices will come down from the $2500 a set to $900, what I believe it should be. I had a builder who was going to put a set together for me @ $250 each plus springs.

I have two complete sets now and no longer need to have a set built. I also put a member in contact with a seller who is selling two front seats and the rear seat for $150. NOw that's a good deal!

What do you think the seats are worth? I know you have a price in mind and I know You know your parts!

I just picked up a front pass seat from a memebr here for $50 and a whole entire set, reupholstered with the floor brackets for $1000 ( READY TO GO )

i know theres a guy in cali repoping frames now for $250 all sizes,, im just waiting on pics to post.

send me info-im very interested. have you seen the frames in person? I heard from one of my LA burb buddies last year that somebody was making really BAD copies and selling for a lot. VERY interested in seeing or hearing about good copies.

im a lot less concerned about original than i am original fit, function, and form. i dont want teh re-pops to be obvious.

the cushon part was done at a shop in foam,, there are no springs and the owner said they fill 100 times better than the og's

love the pics-wish they were screen size... that one bare frame looks like OEM... if its re-pop-sign me up!
i dont mind foam for seats... its kinda cool though to have springs and "boing" over speed bumps... memories...

youve got a couple TF burbs-are the yellow seats TF style or AD or is tehre zero difference?

I KNOW the AD seats changed at least once during production. maybe twice.

Thanks for the pictures. Those look pretty good. The middle seat in the suburban looks to be original. Do they come painted/primed or unfinished? Where are they being built?

Count me in for the third seat for my '58 burb if they pass inspection.

OK,, so sorry about the pic my friend sent them to me as he was there taking them from his phone. those are pics of his finished/installed seats that he has in his 54.
according to him thats actually a repop bare frame pic..

right now im waiting for the builder to make another set and send me pics, he did say he would make a better deal if we orderd a few sets at a time. ut untill he calls me i cant say too much about better pics or final price.

they might be the same ones from the LA area being made. im not sure as to were he is making them at though ut my friend did say the quality on them has improved since the first ones he made and thats why he bought them for his burb.

no that is an origional woodie in the pic,, i got ahold of the owner to try and buy it but no luck. as for the seats im not sure about,, they looked to be that same but they were just thrown in the back with some other stuff and i couldnt get a really good look.

i was down in cal this winter and was wondering about some of those seats. was pretty sure the owner built them but i bet they were from la. dude because the guy that owned the burb really didn't seem capable of building them. looked "homemade" to me but at the time didn't know why but this thread explains it now. with the economy the way it is i can see these seats dropping in price like everything else.

I'd love to see more pictures of an AD Woody! Did they just start as a Cowl/Chassis order?

Good Morning, To answer your poll, I should think a fair price for a set would be around $1200. Of course we all want to score a set for less, but reality is what it is. I have an Art Deco Burb and am wondering about seat springs, is anyone making them? Thanks, Richard

I just have to say that he does build the 1947-1959 second and third row seats.All you have to do is pm elhippie64 and he will get with you.

And to add to the subject,here are a couple of pictures of a middle seat I purchased from him.

I made the upper seat cushion hooks and welded them on.There is a little bit of welding to do at the lower corners.I welded in the lower curves on both seats to look like the originals.He may be doing this now,you will have to contact him to find out.

Those are really nice. In the true spirit of this hobby, you made them yourself. Kudos to Hippie. Many on here should do that. With an original set to copy and tubing, tubing bender, welder, sheet metal and some wooden jigs, it would be fun. (Wooden jigs with nails and outlines so that you could do more copies if desired) This is very do-able for many bolters.

Since there seems to be ?'s or problems on my frames or if I actually make them or not I hope this helps.

I DO PERSONALLY MAKE THE FRAMES WITH MY OWN HANDS OUT OF MY HOME.
I decided to make these frames myself after having a few shops give outrages prices and or back out of making them. (I did have a well experienced fab shop owner's help when I had ?'s)

I have sold frames on this and 1 other site.

I make frames as they are ordered by customers and only order materials once I receive half down payment as I had someone order a set and back out never to be herd from again once they were complete and ready to ship. I have posted pics before of the first set I ever made when trying to gauge interest. I make them in my spare time since I have a reg day job, a 6 year old son, and a home I am the slowly remodeling so I do not put all my attention on making frames only but once the process is rolling I do make them to get them out the door to you ASAP.

I prefer to be pm'd on here as to not tie up the forums answering ?'s
