It had been sitting for some time without maint or care. I have gotten it running and the body is basically sound but, needs cosmetic work. The original owner made some mods which I want to restore to original. The grill does not match any of the sales bulletin pictures I have of this year. The wooden bed liner is completely gone but I intend to restore it eventually. It is my daily ride locally. Pix at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ncrayd

It wasn't easy but the number verifies 1956 (3B56B****59). Thanks for the tip. The way the holes are drilled for the Rocket emblem I think the same guy that installed the "connie" mount also put this on. He also replaced the original tail lights and the bench seat.

The fender holes for the side spears are in the '56, not '55.2 position, so that's more evidence that most of the truck is a true '56. (Still, ya never know!  ). I, too, like the look of the big truck grille. I guess I just assumed that it wouldn't fit in the small trucks.
