I need some help identifying the purpose of a cutout in my '52 3/4 ton heater/defroster (arrow "A" in photo).

Also, what's up with the exposed slats (arrow "B" in photo)? I'll have to look closer, maybe defrost outlet was moved???

Thanks all!

Photo is here!

Thank you!

It looks like the outlet has been moved. Can you post a photo of a frontal view of the heater?

been butchered fer sure wink
I think "A" is where a ranco valve mounted, the brackets, one with the hole and one with the peg, would be where the control cable mounts, the bent flanges beside the hole would be where a component clicks in - "B" looks to me to be just additional warm air out when it's on full defrost position, I doubt they'd put louvers like that under the defrost outlet, and they do look factory

somebody appears to have re-shaped things where the e-brake handle musta been pinching their fingers against it, and they obviuosly wanted more heat on the drivers feet, choppin a hole in the end like that .... I'd be lookin for a new case!

Thanks red58. As long as I can get heat out of it, it doesn't matter to me what it looks like. I like warm feet too!

hahahahaha - I'd call it a 55-57 car heater fan and some very creative ducting - makes me think the heater is from a car as well, a make-do farmer who also liked warm feet grin iI wouldn't be suprised if the inside heater is a 55-57 car, not the right shape for any year truck heater I'm familiar with, but it does have similarities to the one that was in a 57 sedan I had

unless you're planning on using the truck on the farm, I'd strip alla that stuff off, inside and out, and find a more correct heater, there's some that work quite well

a post in the parts wanted section here for a 47-55 heater, particularly a deluxe version could turn one up - there were heaters made back then specifically for the praire farmers, had seperate fans for cab heat and defrost, and a variable temp control .... could also look at modern aux truck heaters, smaller and neater like these or maybe these .... would better reflect on your abilities and taste when the neighbors admire the truck grin

of course new aftermarket would need 12v for the fan, but changing either the truck to 12v or the fan motor to 6v is easy enough

Thanks Bill. Hey... I added another photo at the bottom of the page. Do you know what the lever that the arrow is pointing at is for?

another cable connection, the clamp above the arrow point holds the cable housing, the peg is where the cable end loop connects .... there's yet another cable connect setup at the left side of that pic - those are both prolly from the original installation in whatever it came from, the car had some fresh air controls, and the air input ran along the inner fender from an opening at the front next to the rad - prolly the installer tried to copy the same arrangement with that 'custom ductwork'

I moved the levers while the blower was on. The one on the left lets the air in from the blower, but the one on the right didn't have any effect. I'm thinking it might divert it past the heater core.
