I am having a problem with Evercoat's Rage. This filler is the plain Rage, not Gold or Extreme etc. The problem is no matter how I mix or apply the filler it always dries with a sticky surface. This "sticky" is a real bear to sand off. Once this layer is removed it sands like it should. Please note I'm a novice at body work and am learning as I go, but I don't think this is the way it should be. The man who sold me the filler even shook the can in the paint shaker after I complained to him about it. Any ideas? Thanks, Scott

filler doesn't need shaking, just a stir when you start using it ... in my experience ALL filler is sticky when you first start working it, which is why the first thing to use is a body file or rasp, as soon as it's set enough to not smear, shave it lightly to get the shape you want so you don't have big ridges and lumps to take off as dust - then use a hand block lightly with coarse paper when it's dried 15-30 minutes, and power after that - even then expect stickiness, but if you don't try to go too fast, a wire brush knocks the lumps off the paper - once it's all sanded over a bit and really dry there won't be a problem - just the way life is wink

I'm going to guess that your hardener has separated. Thouroughly kneading the tube may solve your issue and make sure you're not using too much or too little.

All fillers will have a slight gummy fell to them.
As mentioned before the hardner could be going bad not allowing the filler to dry correctly no matter how you mix it...Eric

Wipe it with a little paint thinner before sanding, its pretty normal to be sticky.

Thanks guys, I hadn't thought much about the hardner, I thought the filler itself might be getting old though. I've tried two different tubes of hardner and used alittle hardner and alot of hardner, it doesn't seem to matter about that. The filler always drys, it doesn't stay gummy, just sticky on top as described. Most of my filler is less than 1/8th thick so I've just been using a sanding block to start, I'll try using a rasp and the other ideas ya'll mentioned and see if it helps.
Thanks again. Scott
