Do any of you know of a newer 5 speed like would come in a half ton [no granny] that will bolt up to my 56 bell housing and not require any input shaft mods? The drive shaft is no problem as I am changing to a Dakota rear anyway.
Thanks .........................................Larry

If your truck is Chevy V-8, the NV 3500, first gear is 3.5,a little low, will bolt up ,but the intergal clutch housing may foul on the crossmember.

A T5 from a Camaro fits the bell housing perfectly. I put in a new clutch and pressure plate 'cuz I had it apart anyway, but you will find the new T5 has a different input spline than the older trans. In the Tech Tips section of this site, Grant Galbraith has a good piece on mating a T5 to an AD with an in-liner.

I'll check out the NV 3500 first as I want a light truck trans, I will be using the sub as a truck. The low first gear would be a good thing.
Thanks again................................Larry | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | The NV3500 will not bolt up to your stock bellhousing, it has an integral bellhousing that will fit engine if it is a V8.
If you have an inline 6 - I think your best shot for a 5 speed that will bolt up to your stock bellhousing is a T5 | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 215 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 215 | if you have v8 you could also use NV4500 wich is a evan better trany but reqiers a littel work to make it fit rite
