I have a 38 chevy pickup 1/2 ton with the 216 engine, I have looked for a 235 for about a year and all I find is junk. Now I have run into a 250 with 4 barrel and mild cam, My question will this swap as easy as the 235 and bolt to everything or am I looking at a project. I have looked for info but I am coming up with nothing, would like to keep it simple but this engine is interesting.

Thanks Jack

Hy Jack M, the short answer is no. You'll have to make engine mounts, and adapt to your transmission, if you intend to keep that, give us some more info on what you want to do, hope that helps.

One more question, What engines will swap simply besides a 235?

actually chassis engineering makes some simple to use engine and trans mounts i have a 39 i have used these on and teh up side is i am going with a 250 inline but the chassis mounts are the exact same as a sbc so at a later date if i wish to go v8 i can smile but the motor mounts run me 24 and the universal chassis ones ran me 40 far as the trans mount i used the stock crossmember that was already in the truck i will try to snap a few pics today and post them on my photo if interested

Well, any time you change engines there is always something you run into that you haven't figured on. I put a 396 in a 350 hole and it wasn't bad, but it did require some changes, mostly in the area of the cooling system.

I would look for a good 235. There have to be some out there. If you can't find one, the 250 probably wouldn't be that difficult. I know you would have to fabricate engine mounts, get a new bellhousing and somehow get your radiator hooked up to the engine. Also, I don't know if you could use the original generator on your engine or have to adapt the vehicle over to an alternator. If so, that would be considerably more time and probably money, depending on how much stuff you have on hand.

Shame your so far away jack I have a 235 just sitting in the garage that i could only hope to trade for a 216 i want to rebuild mine but when I bought my truck the engine was a puzzle in the bed of the truck I've had the block cleaned and tested but haven't found a couple of parts that might be beyond repair. Plus its hard to put something back together that I didnt dissasemble or have even gotten to reaaly look at up close and personal
