Hey Guys, I'm looking for a low buck heater/defroster box for a 56 Chevy pickup. Junkyard parts are welcome. Right now, I have nothing, and don't really want to get an original and get the core rebuilt. I would also be interested in hearing if anyone has tried the aftermarket units like at carparts.com. And it gets chilly here in Oregon winters. Thanks upfront, Dusty

I'm not sure if you'll find one in a junkyard over there, but you never know......
An early Austin Mini heater is a small self contained unit with demister hook-ups.
As you can see on the listing it won't break the bank!
That's what I'll be fitting in my '50,as no one over here can rebuild my original core.
You might find one a bit closer to home on ebay/craiglist etc.
Good luck!

Dusty,
Hers a quick review of the aftermarket heater/defroster assy offered by Classic Parts of America.
Part# 68-991A
Price- $159.95
Heating the cab- Excellant
Defrosting the winders- poor (with hand operated hathes closed air flow to the defroster ducts is very low)
Fan is single speed also a draw back.
Just my real world review on this product offer I have in my 52.
Tim
