i'm in the process of rebuilding a 235. i think i'm going to use a duel carb intake. i've been told that they help distibute fuel and air into the cylinders more evenly. and they keep the 1 and 6 from running lean.

is a header (fenton) required to complete the equation or will it breath just fine without one?

also is there a alternate way to get even fule ditribuiton?

You don't need the headers, but they look cool. With a stock setup, 1 and 6 don't really run poorly. Just look at the plugs. I did notice that my truck seemed to idle a little more smoothly after putting the offy on. That, however, could be just because of the time I spent getting everything happy, and just thinking it runs better after all that work?

Be prepared for a lot of tuning, bolting the intake on is the easy part. Finding two carburetors that match internally and getting them equalized is the hard part.

After you get all that going, it may or may not run any better, but it will look cool! That why most of us install them, for the looks.

Mine runs just the same with one as it does with three, I have drag strip tickets to prove it. Gas mileage is better just because the three are smaller and leaner then the one bigger Mono-Jet, I can lean out the Mono-jet and get great mileage, but it just doen't have the same look.

I have also ran the drag strip with headers and then with a stock manifold, again, no difference since I don't run it very hard ( 4000rpm max). Headers should work better if you run the engine higher, but to that you will need a better camshaft.

So you now can see the snowball starting to grow...
cam & lifters, valve springs, gaskets, headers, exhaust pipe, intake, carbs, linkage, fuel lines, etc......

good to know. if there is little to no performance difference, maybe i'll just stick with the stock set up. i like the stock look and i wont have to buy a new intake.
