Need help in identifying the engine/transmission (cast iron) that came with my 1954 Corvette.

Engine Head 3836848
Engine Block 3769716 B192
Serial No. FO2XXBE
Transmission Adaptor 3719240 L216
Transmission Case 3708134 L36
Transmission Dipstick Cover 3709060 L286
Transmission Shift Cover 3709096
Transmission Tail Shaft 9708241

My dilemma is the car was not running when I purchased it – although the previous owner “said” it ran 10 years ago. The engine was mounted with the two side mounting towers typical to the Corvette, but the transmission was supported between the frame “X” by a piece of angle iron with the rubber transmission mount on top. I purchased the correct transmission mounting cross member, and hopefully this will work with the transmission I have. Not sure why this was rigged … perhaps the newer transmission did not work with the original cross member?

The driveline has been shortened due to the replacement transmission I have. I did purchase the correct 53-54 Corvette tail shaft assembly and yoke. Any advise on if I can use this on the transmission that I have or should I seek out a rebuildable 54’ power glide? Will it bolt up correctly to engine that I have? Would it better to stay with the 56’ power glide that I have and not go back to the 54’?

Any help in getting me out of the starting gate here would be appreciated. I would certainly like to keep the engine and head that I have and “tweek” it a bit, but not sure about the transmission situation.

Thanks!!!!

According to inliners, the head is from a 1956 235, and the block is from a 1960 truck.

Someone else will surely know more.

That's the same casting number that is on my block which is the original 235 that came with the truck. 1962.

The BE suffix in the engine serial number was used for '60-'62 passenger car 235's with powerglide and power steering. The block date code says '62.

The "848" head is the most desirable 235 head that at some point around '56 or '57 became the standard head for all '53+ 235's.

The 3708134 PG transmission case with the 3719240 "2nd design" housing is from a '55-'57 6-cyl. passenger car. '56 was stated, and the date codes confirm that year. I don't know the difference between the 1st and 2nd design 6-cyl. PG housings, but they both should bolt up to the 235.
