Now, would it be expensive or complicated for me to get positraction or whatever that makes both wheels spin on my truck? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 788 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 788 | there are various type of rear axle setups and he is referring to positraction which is a limited slip rear axle w/clutches in it. it is not a constant 2 wheel drive rear axle.it will engage in certain criteria( all he understands that if he stands on it in a straight line both tires will smoke.that is one of the criteria). you would not want to drive around with both wheels driving constantly as it is a pain turning with it. you could check under the parts for sale here as someone may have a used one that you could rebuild and install (oiginal equip). you should ask a few of them that are in the bus. of selling parts. you may be able to still by a new unit. you should be able to buy a detroit locker for it and there are other makes out there ron | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 211 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 211 | | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | Hey 65, Check into Mosier or Currie for a bullet proof rear diff. They are beefed up Ford 9" rears custom made to fit your needs. I put one in my brother in-laws 55 Shoebox and it has held up very well, Scott | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 788 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 788 | what is the cost factor on one of these custom units. more than likely built for 950hp to? ron | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 92 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 92 | Cost depends on how it's built, mild to wild. The one I installed was built for a 383 stroker with 3:55 gears for about $1200.00. It was complete with covers, paint, brakes and drums, Scott | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 211 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 211 | Well not that expensive i guess. Now, the day i realised my truck does the 1 wheel peel i tried to see what my rear end gear ratio was. Do both wheels have to be off the ground and the truck has to be in gear or something? Cause i tried it in neutral with one off the ground and came up with 1.25:1 or something which can't be right since the smallest in '65 was a 3.07:1. Any tips? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 169 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 169 | hey there pull the rear diff cover off and divide the small number off the crown gear into the big one.Ill pretty much be guessing they are 373 ratio, seems to be the most common ratio for these years. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | Instead of turning once turn 10 times.

Much less setup, and the cost is lower. Plus, it is a true locking diff, not a limited slip.
