Hi bolters. As the subject indicates I have a 48 one ton single rears with the famous long box. Was a gift from my wife's grandpa, Ted. When he went to the home for Alzheimers he told my father-in-law that "Paul gets the truck, because he gets it." He's a man of few words who used to be a mechanic and even though I had only talked to him a couple of times, he liked me because I was racing the local dirt tracks at the time. Kinda weird, cuz he remembers me better than his own blood-grandkids.

It's a solid truck on at least its third engine; a '54 235. 12V conversion, original rear, fenders need a little attention, cab is perfect, floor has some tin patch-work done to it, seat is good, doors and roof bare, box has diamond deck welded over the original wood. Originally was green, but Grandpa-in-law Ted painted it red in the '60's. We plan on going back to green.

I have a cliche 350 balanced with a lightened crank, 6" Eagle rods, KB pistons, Crane racing cam, 441 heads 2.02 in, 1.5 ex, extensive block work done...etc, etc, typical old stock car engine with about 30 shows on it that I'll be planting under the hood. Probably will go with a Saginaw 3-speed, need help with the rear end(!). Looking forward to having you guys teach me about all this truck stuff that I'm basically clueless about.

Pics here: 48 chevy 3804

Also have '82 Jaguar XJ6 with 32,800 miles on it that was going to get the aforementioned 350, but got it running too easily and don't see the reason to go through with the conversion "lump" anymore.....at least not yet!

Welcome to the Stovebolt. That is a pretty nice truck you have there. I am not biased but I think 1 Tons rule!

Isn't family wonderful... Great story about grandpa-in-law. Great old truck too. I love the handwritten history too.
I like those longbed 1-tons too.

Those are great pics! Also, just how many pages of "notes" do you have concerning this truck? That was pretty dang neat!

Beautiful truck. If it were mine I'd keep it stock.

Welcome to the site pk10. I agree with Cletis. But it's not mine, its yours so you can do as you like. Just ask all the questions you have and someone, somewhere will be an expert in that area.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
