The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Cleared for Mock Up

I'm building a 1-ton GMC to pull my trailer. Today I actually got some work done and turned what I feel is an important corner. I finished taking things off the frame and I'm ready to start putting them back on!

In brief the plan is to use a Cadillac 500 with TH400, GM 14-bolt rear and a C20 IFS. The rear has been in place for months, but installing the IFS has held up doing the motor. Now I'm ready for the IFS.

I removed the front spring hangers and the bellhousing crossmember and basically everything else I didn't think made sense to my plan.

Here is the frame after I finished removing parts and pushed it outside to hose it off.

Here is the IFS hanging from the cherry picker ready to be moved into place.

My next step is to move the IFS under the front of the frame and take a bunch of measurements. Then its time to mock it up.

With the IFS in place I'll mock the motor in place, and then put the cab and front clip back on to make sure things will all fit. Once I'm happy with the mock up I'll finalize the mountings.

Then its sand blast and paint the frame and start putting the cab back together. I may finish this by summer. The only question is which summer...

Hey OldSub. That pic of the IFS, is that 8 or 6 lug? If 8, what is it off of? How are you planning on attaching it to the one ton frame? Dave.

Wow, you have been busy. I cant wait to come over and take a peak!

Dave: It's 8-lug and from a '72 Chevy C-20. I plan to bolt it on and will share pictures of my solution. I've looked at pictures and trucks others have done to get an idea what has worked.

Thanks, that is just what I need to replace the drum brakes on my 65 C-30. I think it'll bolt up if I use ball joints for the '72. Yeah I'd like to see pics of the adaptation even though I will not need to do it that way. Dave
