I have just spent half the day trying to install the door glass and vent assembly on my 53 3100. Is there a trick to it? I have searched the site and really only found info on removing them- not installing new glass. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I did the other side about 6 months ago and in just popped in with no problems. Was I just extremely lucky on that one? I don't remember exactly how I did it because it went in so easily. Help!!!

What problem are you having? A bit more detail will make helping easier. "Can't install" covers a lot of ground.

I can put the vent window assembly in the door with no problem, but now how do I get the door glass to fit in the channels? I have all the channels and regulator installed in the door, so now its just a matter of getting everything to line up. I am afraid to use any force as I think I might break the glass.

Don't know if it's the same procedure as I have a task force 59 but the shop manual says to put them in together, the vent window first(but don't secure it) then tilt it back and insert the roll up window. Hope that helps.

I'm not familiar with the exact set-up of your 53 but as a rule the window is fed into the door cavity vertically from the top. Some windows need to go in with the forward end down, some with the aft end down and some make no difference which way. Once the window is in the door it's turned horizontal. One or both of the window channels should have a fastener at the bottom that can be loosened so the channels can be spread enough to allow the window into both fwd & aft channels. After that just put all of the fasteners in place and adjust the window if necessary. That is a generic description but they are all about the same.

I believe the manual says to align the vertical wing vent assembly and then tighten it down....but I could be wrong.
Anyway, once you get the regulator in "roll up the regulator to little over half way. Then hold the window glass almost vertical. As you slide it down in the door engage the window sash, (bottom of the window) with the roller on the end of the regulator. The glass should silde in at an angle and while doing it you push it in to the proper position. Once its in position roll up the window.

Did you change the window channel? If so be sure the end of it is sticking down into the little clip on the window channel guide that bolts to the edge of the door on the latch side. If its out of the window channel it could be giving you a problem.

wbrowne: I need to go read the manual again...which doesn't mean anything sometime, but my experience is to put in the wing vent assembly and then the window glass. Works for me every time and his 53 has the wing vent assembly.
