(55, 2nd series) I had to alter new latches so that the door would close...No idea why..but the existing latches didn't look like those in the manual either. There was a piece of steel that was too tall that had to be shortened. Now that they close there is about 1/4" play after they are fully closed. I suppose the rubber weatherstripping should work that out, pushing the slack out but is that how it's suppost to work? Or should it latch in one definite position with no play? There's no adjustment for that as far as I can see. Striker plates don't wear significantly do they?

Thanks,

Keith

yes, the rubber is part of the equation .... yes all the various bits of both the latch and striker wear .... and yes the striker position is adjustable, loosen the screws holding one and you'll find it moves up and down, which is to help align the door in the hole when closed [and the main contribution to wear]

Hey Bill..I think I need to put the rubber in at this point even if it's just to get an accurate mock up.

BTW 3:11 here and trying to get tired again..Just checked out you're 37 ford delivery... Sweet truck.

Have a great Holiday weekend.

Thanks,

Keith

In my quest for perfect panel alignment, I found that I had the strike plates in (toward the passenger compartment) too far so the latch would only catch on the first hump. There are two. Try moving the catches all the way out and then slam the door shut. Then start moving them in until its good.
