I want to put a 235 in my 48 and want to put a 3 or 4 speed transmission with floor shift and open driveline in it since I am updating the rearend to a 64 with 3:73 gears. I have read alot on this site about transmissions but I need one that will bolt right in with the floor shifter in the right place. Can I just try to find one out of a 55 2nd -62 truck or what. I just want to be able to drive on state routes and back roads without the engine winding out. Help!

That 4 speed is a floor shift and would be my choice for an easy swap and should be inexpensive. There is an overdrive T-5 unit that is very popular now. You should read all the threads and tip on this site and over at inliners.org re the T-5.
