I have thanks to Brads post the dimensions for the second and third row seats for these Suburbans.

I am considering having a local pipe bender/welder fabricate these seats from the drawings and measurements I have.

The way I see it, if I can get more sets built at one time the less each seat/set would cost for all of us.

Is anybody out there interested in pursuing this with me?

Hello Dave,
Any others interested? Keep us posted. What did you find out about the hold down brackets? I haven't any thing new on them. Still looking for someone that does springs for them. Richard

I know a guy here locally with a waterjet. He could probably make the brackets for the floor, and I have a decent set to copy out of my suburban. I am not sure if these are worth duping or not, but I'd be happy to make a call if anybody's interested.

I don't have any pics of the brackets. Are we hijacking or is this related?

They look very similar to the 1948/55 brackets. They use a stovebolt (can't remember the exact name), a saddle and wing nut to mount.

Thanks for the pic. Mine are all in place in the fllor, but what attaches the seat to these? That is missing on both suburbans.
I don't believe we are hijacking, this is all part of the seat mounting.

Thanks again to all, Richard

The floor brackets shown in elhippie are just like mine, 2 sets for the center seat and 3 sets for the rear seats.

I have started discussions with a local tube bender and rearend builder. I should have prices soon.

I have also started discussions with a upholstrey guy for seat foundations(high density foam.

I will keep everybody in the loop via this topic/thread.

sounds good,, i have been looking for someone around here to bend me one, but it seems like no one has the correct bender for the 7/8" tube used for the frames.

Hey guys, Obviously this is a long term project for me, I have a 41 1ton P/U in the paint shop as we speak and as soon as it comes out the 1946 Burb goes in so it will be later this year.

I do have several thoughts for you guys. The first is to have the frames built and welded up complete. The figure out the best way to distribute them around.

The second is to have the basics built up but leave the bases, arm rests and backs off for local welding. That way they would be cheaper and easier to ship/transport.

If I remember correctly Richard has one set of original seats and I would appreciate any pictures and measurements he could contribute to help us all out.

FYI, I do not consider any of this input hijacking it is all related an as I tell my folks at work: "No one of us is better than all of us" when it comes to contributing to the conversation

I think from the pictures I have seen that the AD seats are wider and mount at different points from the Art Deco Suburbans.

Can any one confirm?

You can't make seats with curved tubing pieces to be welded by the buyer from measurements someone gives you. It's a great idea to make them and make them in shipable pieces ready to weld. But you must have a genuine set of seats to copy. Then use trial and error prototype until a perfect match is made and then draw up your pieces on cad. Keep track of every bend radius and length and angle you use while making the trial pieces. then you can shop it out for mass quantity prices using the drawings. If you want to go big, that is. Of course you could get someone to use a coordinate measuring machine to reverse engineer an actual set of seats and automatically have the drawings. But that takes connections. If you did go big I'm sure Carter and others would source from you. these seats and the TF seats are hens teeth rare, but of course I left out an important part. you need to get the springs made or find some that work in the aftermarket. There is at least one large seat maker out there who should have already done this. Glide Engineering. they make AD and TF truck seats, the spring assemblies would be darn close to the suburban 2nd and 3rd seat. Not a hard thing for them to modify there process for AD/TF Suburban sizes. Don't forget the Suburban front seats can be modified for Suburban 2nd seat use. They are much more plentiful and constructed in the same way except for the floor mounting. A little cutting/welding/thinking, you got a 2nd seat boys. A no. 18 seat stretcher and you got a 3rd seat!!! The floor mounting plates are one or two strokes of a punch press in mass qty. Small Qty, make them any way that works.

Hello Folks,

If I have not responded to any of you individually please let me know.

I am waiting to hear from Richard Patrick and the dimensions he can supply with his original set.

Hopefully pictures as well.

As soon as I have this info I will get with my guy and see what he can do and how much they will cost.

I would be more than happy to give you his email ID but unfortunately while he is no old timer he continues to think that the internet is something you find in panty hose.

Like I said this is a long term project but I hope to have mine on the road this year.

Hello Dave and all others, i am in Iowa and will be out working on my Suburban tomorrow, Happy Birthday USA!! I will get the measurements and try to post photos with them. It may be easier to send the seats than to do the dimension/picture thing. You are correct on the inernet thing, are you sure it is not a part of a set of panyhose? Sure wish it was. Be well everyone and have a great 4th of July, Young Richard

Hello Dave,
I hope that you have received the photos. They will have my sisters email in the heading not mine. hers starts out kjpettit. My direct email is [email protected] Unfortunately it seems that the entire disc of photos got sent. I only meant to send the ones of the seats which are picture number 1000175 thru 1000197. Delete the others. Let me know if this works. I am in my shop all day tomorrow. The alternative is for me to ship you the seat frame. Lots of luck, Ric
