I have heard 3500rpm, but notice in the specifications listed on my CDRom version of a Chevy manual that peak HP is at 3800rpm.

I run my 250 to 4000 with out problems, shorter stroke. Check over at inliners.org, they are more into high rpm then here. I would bet 4000 or 4500 would be about it with knowing whats inside. Peak hp is not top rpm, its just the point you run out of power so theres not much reason to go past it.

MY 67 K20 has 4:56 to 1 gear rato it would scream at 60 mph but it would run like that all day and did for 200,000 miles I don't think you can kill those engines!

FWIW, I've seen race prepped and balanced engines run at 7K but I agree that 4500 is reasonable.

Wow, I was cruising on the first long trip averaging about 3Krpm, letting it edge up to 3200 downhill before climbing up the other side.

I'm hoping the electric fan will quiet down the racket a bit, the noise from the close-by engine and minimally insulated dog house in the Grumman makes it sound like all he# is breaking loose in there!

Next trip is next weekend, maybe I'll let it run up a bit further, maybe pass a car or 2...!

UPS runs a bunch of 292's and they seem to last pretty good and they run the crap out of them! Joe

I believe that it is 5000 RPM. You should have no problem running them to at least that. In my buddy's father's tow rigs, we regularly hit 4500-4800 when empty.
