I'm using a tail shift model now. | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | The best one for putting these old trucks are the mid 80's S-10 pickup ones. The 88 up went to an electronic speedo so is not good unless you have custom gauges w/elec. speedo or a expensive adapter. The S-10 used it up into the mid 90's. The Camero version is stouter but the shifter is way back at the rear so must be used with bucket seats. They were used in Mustangs, Jeeps, & Mazdas & others but each has its own specifications. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Does anybody have a source for a shifter? I would like something with a longer handle and that means a shorter shift. I have seen the article on Stovebolt on how to modify one. Also, B&M used to make 2 different model numbers, but they don't seem to be produced anymore. I was wondering if a Camaro or mustang shifter would fit and could be modified with a longer handle? | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats | Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 | Todd,
use the stock shifter, fabricate the handle, and if you need , shorten the throw per the article. The Camaro and S-10 use the same shifter, the ford can be used, however it needs to be modified to fit the GM tail shaft.

I seem to remember that they had a second part number for a shifter with an even shorther throw, but I could not find it on ebay at all. If they made a second type, it must have sold out all excess inventory.
So, a Camaro shifter would work if I modified the handle as well? | | |
