I have a 66 chevy c10 I bought wiper arms and blades the stainless steel ones the problem is that I live in the mountains and these blades just don't hold up. They don't get he snow off of the windshield. Today the drivers side wiper fell of and there was a blizzard out, a truck past me and blow snow all over my truck I thought I wasn't going to get pulled off the road in time I couldn't see a thing.

Is there a wiper setup that is heavy duty that will fit my truck?

...feel your pain buddy! Take your wiper arm to your FLAPS and let them do a search. I usually use NAPA as they have inventory on computer with pictures for comparison purposes.

I agree with Big Chevy 3600, I went there and ordered and they arrived the next day. I've since tried to remove one because I found one that came with the truck and I think it is safe to say that there is little danger of them coming off when you don't want them to.

So are you saying that you replaced your wipers with a better one?

I called Napa and I am going down to look at a blade and arm they said would work I hope that it is better then the ones I bought.

When you get to NAPA look for TRICO Series 51 heavy duty wiper arms. Certian models can be adjusted for length & adjusted for angle. The TRICO is stainless steel all the way through. Look Here for more info. (http://www.tricoproducts.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=225&location_id=101)

I had purchased "stainless" wiper arms from a well known parts supplier. The arms never held the wipers securely & could never clean the windshield. The arms rusted & fell off within a year.

I had a problem with the wiper blade hitting the trim on top of the windshield and was trying to figure out which one worked better(I eventually figured out that the Napa one worked better without hitting the trim). I had to take a pair of vise grips and pull the pin out that held the wiper blade on. That's why I think that there is little danger of the Napa supplied blades from coming off. They fit well just like originals and keep the windshield clean, and aren't all that expensive either.

I did get the APS part right, I had different words for the F & L.

My boy said he bought some a Napa so when I get them I will let all of you know what kind they are and if they work good. I called him to tell him to buy the TRICO Series 51 heavy duty but he had already gone there.

OK here it is: The part number for the wiper arm is 60-751 and the blades are: 60-01301 at Napa

This combination worked great and they are a lot tougher then the stainless steel ones I bought. But they don't look as good.

Are these the part #'s for the ones you purchased or for the TRICO,s?

The wiper blade is called Exact fit the wiper arm just says Adjustable Wiper Arm

I've also had problems with my stainless steel wiper blades flying off in the rain.

i had good luck with replacing the spring inside to arm to a stronger one. i also drill and tap a hole in the arm and the blades and use a 4-40 allen machine bolt to hold them on. they also don't tilt that way when they are going back and forth.

hoggyrubber - would you happen to have any pictures of this setup?

i am sorry, i am so computer illiterate, along with a few other things, it's pretty pitiful. it wasn't very high tech or anything. i just took the arm off and drilled the hole that is pressed in the end of the arm the right size for the 4-40 and also in the wiper itself. i just use a short socket head cap bolt to retain it together. it tightens up with a allen wrench and you don't even notice it. the wipers themselves were kinda wore out and would rock back and forth when they moved and was starting to scratch windshield. i like the way it turned out so well i did it to both my 63 and 64. it prob wouldn't be for the absolute restorer. good luck, hr

I just purchased replacement wiper arms for my '66 from two different vendors. (more on that later)....

My C-10 came from Oklahoma and has several items that were the result of some severe Hillbilly Engineering.
(I've got a wiper arm that would rival yours in that department.)

For replacement arms:
As I said I bought one from LMC and a few weeks later another from Classic Parts. Both were manufactured in Taiwan, will work just fine, and from a distance you can't see any difference. But, a closer look will find the LMC arm is constructed with heavier material and larger rivets. Again, both look as though they'll work just fine, but if I had bought them off the shelf my choice would be for the LMC piece.

My dad went and somehow found a part man who could read a parts book... and that guy found these wiper blades for my current wiper arms.

I have been told that my wiper arms are not OEM pieces to my '65 C10, which has been my problem all this time. I'd like to know what year these arms are from... at any rate, they stayed on in the rain during a rather eventful thunderstorm that passed through the Atlanta, Georgia area last night.

Also... I have now have a nice set of used, OEM style 1964-1966 wiper arms.

Maybe I can keep some blades on in the rain now...

I did not like the tension of the aftermarket arms that I purchased. So I went to AutoZone and did some looking on my own. I found that the rear window arms for a Jeep Cherokee worked great except that they would only work on one side. The other is backwards. So for that one I just drilled out the rivet, preyed it open a bit and flipped it around (used a screw to put it back together with).
The good part is that they are black (I prefer that over the chrome in this case) so it was a simple touch up.
They have good tension and make a good streak free wipe.

The info Rusty64 provided about the jeep rear wiper arms is great! Saved lots of time and hassle of mail order.

thanks for pointers here. for my 1966 c10 fleetside.

i took a chance and ordered some adjustable blades off amazon. the hint was the jeep arms. the key was the 1/2 drum connector, the length of arm, and these actually have an end tilt adjustment. they flip up, take standard 13" blades and the black actually looks pretty nice against the window rubber. here's the the part on amazon.

they go on and adjust super easy with just a couple Allen wrenches.

climberman watch that your little knurled drum is in good shape,they used to replace those when they wore out. It would slip and throw the blades out of time. Others have chimed-in that know more !
