I am looking at a radiator on a site, here i sthe exact one: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Chevy-Aluminum-Radiators,3557.html

It would fit in my 51 gmc if I turned it sideways and bought the plug for the filler and then put a new filler cap directly into a splice on the upper radiator hose. Is this realistic to do? The only thing I don't understand is: can you use a radiator in any position? Sideways/slantwaysupside down, right side up etc?? That will answer my question. Thanks.

I don't see why not, the water pump should control the water flow. You could always just move the filler cap to the top of the tank.

Look at the link and you will see that this core is running up and down just as your would be. You will need some mounting flanges, simple angled aluminum will work, again see above link. You are looking at a dirt track radiator, they work really well, Dad has one cooling his 478 ci Pontiac that has a block half filler with concrete. (concrete is for cylinder wall stiffness on race motors)

Mounting will be you biggest challenge.
