I have a 1953 Chevy 3100 Pickup with a 1958 235 engine. I hear about engine swaps to small blocks so my question is this. Is the small block 350 V8 a good fit in the 3100 and is it worth the expenses I'm sure there would be to get it done???
I'm just curious before a start spending money rebuilding repairing and upgrading my 235. Thanks

V8 swaps into Advanced design trucks require some type of steering box relocation depending on the exhaust system you choose, personally I would rather spend the money on improving the performance of the inline 6 or swaping in a 261

I agree. The 235 is much easier but it all depends on what you want from it & how much you can do yourself.

Thanks guys. I think the 235 is gonna be rebuilt real soon then maybe I'll tinker with dual carbs and exhaust as well as the tranny...

if it were mine i would save alot of time and trouble and cash and swap in a good runnning 100 dollar 250 or 292

they are around, i evne know of a good running 250 engine for 75 bucks right now and i took a remanuactured and tagged one to the shredder last fall, got sick of it being in the way and no one would take it, i gave up and said hell with it

Okay, so it's not in the Bible, but everyone knows that on the 8th day God created the 235. Mario23, a 1958 235 is the perfect engine for that truck. PLEASE don't run off and join the bolt on billet 350 crowd. Put some time and $$$ into that 235 and make it sing and dance for us. there are plenty of guys around here that can give you lots of good guidance, et.

I've pretty much decided to stay with the 235...
I definitely need to learn more about this truck but I'm getting there. I hope to swap in a T5 tranny while I've got the thing taken apart too...

Well you have to make up your own mind on this, but make mine a V-8!

I just last week rethought my project list, and decided one more of my trucks will have a 454 when its done.

Sure a lot easier to put a 235/261 in than a V-8 though.

well my flatbed is gonna have to keep the 216 at the moment. but i got a lead on a 37 international duel axle flatbed if i want to take it away. and i have a nice 360 dodge motor that needs a home. and the international would make a great car hauler for my flatbed. mmuuhhaaahahahaha.... can someone recharge my neck bolts?

Well my 235 needs a major rebuild unfortunately.
Does anyone know any specialists in south FLA.
I heard there's a sharp kid down here working on 6's but haven't had any luck...
