Got the brake system all rebuilt, cleaned out the carb and put in a new kit, cleaned all the green stuff out of the points and got spark. Had to tow it about a mile with plugs out to get the engine turning again. Put gas in it this evening and started it up. Gas line is plugged up, but it runs with gravity feed. I will pull the tank next and work thru that problem next. I smoked like hell for a few minutes, then cleared right up. Good oil pressure too. This is starting to be fun again. | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 | do you have any pics of your 57 ? i would love to see it.

Just don't know how to put them on here. Maybe someone can help educate a dinasour on how to do it. I will ask one of the Grandkids. Drove it a couple of blocks down the road this evening. Put in a new fuel pump and got it primed. Lifters are noisy and one cylinder is missing. Time for a tune up and run the valves now that I have it loosened up a bit. These 235's are tough old motors.

Help yourself. I stole it from the Dodge Dakota forum. I think it's hilarious. | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 446 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 446 | Hey 57 TX...Not a bad looking truck. Does everything else work?

leonard | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 549 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 549 | here are some photos if it works. Nice truck. Did it come with the older fella | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 22 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 22 | Iron Clad: The truck needs some tlc on the valve train and a good tune up. Needs muffler replaced. The w/w's do not work. The generator is not charging. Minor details that a few free week ends came fix. Just throw money at it.:) Avette4me: The old guy looks a lot like my Grampa, but that's me. 57 model truck and 48 model mechanic.
I have to go up to Colo. Easter to pick up a 51 GMC 3/4 ton that I recently purchased. Can't have enough old GM trucks. I will post some photos of that truck when I can. Thanks for the support here on the site. I have been checking in and learning and re-learning tons. | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 549 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 549 | Avette4me: The old guy looks a lot like my Grampa, but that's me. I assumed so. You don't have much on me. 57 model truck and 48 model mechanic. I've always liked '57's - all task force for that matter. The plates on my old truck read "two 58s"... most think it's because it took two trucks to make one (took more than that), but it's really because we're both 58 models. | | |
