I was wondering if any of you guys with a 39 or 40 truck, could give me an idea what size gap (or not any gap) you have between the front fenders and the cowl on the cab. When i bolted my fenders up, they fit perfect on the front, but the space between the fenders and cowl seems pretty wide. They are tight to the cowl right at the bottom where it attaches to the running board. There are no bolts that attach the fender to the cab, so barring putting some in to pull them tighter, i dont see any way of getting them closer.
Thanks in advance for any help

umm i might be wrong still building mine but the 39 fenders should have a fender welting that goes between the cowl and fenders then you just tighten the bolts tight to sandwitch the welt

I think you want a little clearance to keep them from squeaking and rubbing.
The '37-'38's use four cab mounting bolts with springs on them at the rear to let the cab move up and down on the frame as it twists over rocks and bumps, the front cab to frame mounts are the pivot points. I know on these older trucks the fenders are not bolted to the cab for this reason, it would be to much stress on the fenders as the cab and frame twist around. Joe

thanks for the info guys, i saw a few 46s at a car show last weekend and it looks like from 41 and on they started bolting the fenders thru the cowl. i think the cabs were all mounted the same from 39 to 46. i might try bolting them to the cab with a 1/4 rubber spacer between fender and cab slid on the bolt. the gap i have on the passenger side is just to big to leave it as is.
