does crome paint realy look like crome or does it look fake

was watching a show on the speed channel last week where they used this chrome paint, after they spayed some type of activator on it MAN DID IT SHINE like chrome.
Wasnt payin attaention to names an such ...sorry.

Any "chrome" paint I've seen just looks like silver to me. Chrome is like a mirror so if there's a specific brand that you can use for a mirror I'd like to hear about it.

i think the stuff tim is talking about does shine pretty good but from what i understand is pretty expensive.and in my opinion,yes the rattle can stuff does look fake.then theres powdercoat chrome which i think has its own unique look.i saw a booth at a bike show that a local powdercoater set up.he had some pulleys that were p.c. chrome then cleared.they looked real nice.almost like a brushed shiny aluminum.he said about $20.00 a pulley to do.i really liked the look.its something i'm considering.so it all depends on what your preference is and the look you're going for....................dave

umm far as i know the only good looking powder coat chrome comes from elderbrock and is a company secret not available outside the company if it looks like real chrome let me know the company you used because everyplace around here just has a dull silver type

Eastwood sells this stuff , sounds pretty good but I haven't tried it.

I think if someone came up with a chrome paint that actually looked like chrome (and was as durable), it would put the plating shops out of business simply based off of the costs to run a chrome shop.

I have seen some pretty neat powder coated parts that are pretty shiney but not equal to chrome.

I've seen that chrome paint mentioned. It is very expensve, especially if a large part is done (by "large" I meant anything Harley gas tank size or larger). It does look like chrome if done right, it basically works like a mirror. First part is a high gloss balck base, which requires the item being painted to be absolutly perfect, as imperfections will show. The next step involves a special topcoat that has metallic particles suspended in it. Not silver paint, more of a clear with silver paowder in it. The base actually provided the shine, the silver gives the reflectiveness.
There is a similar product in the model car/plane hobby that works the same way, it's rather pricey, too. Pricey enough that you wouldn't want to do anything bigger than maybe a small side badge or dash emblem.
Alclad chrome laquer. I have personally used this product, it does make for convincing chrome.

I remember a few years back,buying a paint called....Nearest thing to chrome. It looked good when first applied,but the finish was very 'soft' and appeared to tarnish quite quickly.
I only found out years later I should have laquered it!
(I was young!)

As Sheridan said if there was such a paint,the chrome shops wouldn't last long!
I'm sorry but you can't beat the real thing!

Haven't used the chrome but I found stainless steel paint at Lowes. I am going to used it on a table I am refurbishing. I'll let you know how it goes.
