I am installing a 250 HEI distributer into my 235 and need spark plug wires. Do I buy the ones that fit the donor 250? Are there wires from a different make/model vehicle that fit better? I would rather have pre made wires instead of the cut your own type if possible.Sorry if this has been covered before but I did not have any luck with the search.
Thanks Jason

Just get a set of pre-made wires for the donor engine. The length of the wires should be pretty close to right, and the only thing to check for is whether you have a remotely-mounted coil, or one that's incorporated into the cap. There will be an extra wire from the coil to the center of the distributor if you've got the remote-coil type setup.

Thanks Jerry, I have the coil in cap type. I have never seen one of these installed in a 235, but it seems to be pretty straight forward. I am just waiting for the split coller to show up in the mail.

I was looking through your pics and noticed there appears to be a bump out in the side cover slightly above the distributor. You may have to alter that to get the later distributor to fit. Once you take off that 1/4" or so lip on the distributor and slide it into the block further, the darn thing is almost touching the side cover. I gave mine a few tabs with a hammer to just barely clear it.

As far as the wires go, I picked up a set from the same year of the truck as the HEI was removed, I think 1980ish.

I did this conversion using the 250 distributor and had to do no modications to the side cover. Plugs from the donor vehicle will do. I went and bought a set of wires that you assemble yourself so that they will be the lenth I want, really didn't think of buying a set from the donor vehicle.

Thanks Guys,
I just purchased a set of plug wires for the donor car. I am a little worried that I may have bought the wrong Dist. I bought one off a 1979 Nova. In addition to the one power wire coming off the coil in the cap I have three wires comming out of the distributer module. Is this Wrong?
Thanks Jason

on the exterior of the cap there should be 5 wires, 1 is for tach which is to the side of the power wire, behind those two wires are three wires, which go to the ignition module inside the distributor. This is all if its anything like the 250 distributor on my 235.

Thanks Chris, mine is the same distributor. I got it installed today minus the plug wires. I will hopefully get to start it tommarrow. Jeff, I did not have to modify the side cover although it was very close, approx 1/16 of an inch.
Thanks alot guys!

no problem, Im now in the process of modifying the distributor to be computer controlled advance as Im ditching the carb and changing over to a throttle body injection setup from a 4.3L v6. Its getting to be a very interesting mod
