I'm fixing up my Dad's 48 Truck. It has had years of neglect at my brother's hands. It's a working truck with a large grain box w/hoist. It's hauled a lot of grain and livestock. My Dad passed away in 1999 and the truck and farm are semi-retired. I'm a auto tech who is between jobs so I had time to come home and work on the truck.

My brother did repair the brakes all around. It wouldn't stop so he had to. He has done some half assed repairs to the rest of the truck.

I was home last summer to visit and when we took the truck down in the pasture to build some fence. I found out that the front engine mount was very bad. The engine and trans were jumping around a lot. When I took it apart last week I found that the front mount grease shield was pounded to pieces between the bolts. I am replacing all three mounts just to be safe as there is a ton of greasy dirt on the engine. I also have new grease shield.

I am not sure if the front mount was installed properly. When I took it apart the curved edge of the top bracket was facing to the front of the truck. It this correct? I'd like to find a picture or diagram that shows this. I saw a picture in the tech tips that showed the tin cover with the long offset to the front.

I also found a thick shim under the lower bracket that bolts to the cross member. There was only one so I installed thick washers on both sides. Is there a parts diagram that shows all the nut, bolts, and washers.

I searched the forum but didn't find what I wanted. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

I also plan to replace on of the front spring shackles. It has never taken grease and it looks like it needs replaced. I have a new part in hand so I am going to do it.

The carburetor throttle body is worn out so I am going to replace it with a good used one I have. The exhaust donut on the manifold is leaking from the bad motor mount so it needs done. Both doors need rebuilt.

I have plenty to fix and lots of grease to scrape. My friend has a GMC with the 3 rear windows and I am sure he will love Stovebolt.com.

Thanks for your help. Craig W.

I will try to help with some tech questions when I can. I have been twisting wrenches for 28 years so I have seen a lot of things.

Welcome Craigs380. I think this site can pretty much solve any problems you have with your bolt.
I would suggest for the fastest answers to try put the questions in the correct forum as all Bolters may not visit all the forums. Good luck with a great project and keep us posted. Also we love pictures when you can post a link to them.
Enjoy your stay and make it a loooong one. And yes, your friend will apreciate you pointing him in the right direction. smile

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Welcome Craigs 380. I just went through the front motor mount business in January. It's very important that this is done correctly or you are liable to get vibrations or even banging. The shop manual has a good article and diagram on exactly how it's put together, it's not difficult. The thin grease shield simply covers the mount like a lid. The bell housing mounts both have a thick rubber cushion with two bolts on each mount. If this is not enough info, go to the engine and driveline forum and there likely is still a thread about it from when I needed assistance sometime in January.
