I have a 1953 GMC pickup and need insurance coverage for when the truck will be parked outside. I checked both Hagerty and Grundy and the truck must be keep inside. Does anyone know who I can get insurance from?

What level of coverage are you looking for?

A lot of "antique" insurers need 80% restoration etc.. J C Taylor for example requires the bolt to be in very good condition and NOT a primary driver.

if you find someone who will insure it outside, please let me know, because i have not been able to find anyone who will, and i have been searching for a year now.
for an agreed value, they all want it parked inside a garage.
good luck in your search

I also have a 53 GMC and my regular carrier, State Farm, would not insure it, had no formula to determine the value, said that if it was in an accident they would consider it's age and there would basically be no value. They recommended Allstate. I went to Allstate, where I have my house insurance, and they required me to get a written appraisal from a certified classic vehicle appraiser. They have insured it now for over 3 years, and at no time was it mentioned that it had to be kept indoors. Joe

A year or two ago someone posted here that they found collector car insurance that let him keep his ride under a car port rather than in a garage but it couldn't be out in the open unprotected at all. I could be wrong but I'm thinking he said it was Grundy. He had to call and speak with a real person to find that out. The site said it had to be in a garage.

HMMM...here in PA my State Farm agent came to the shop and took a few pics ..insured it with an agreed value of $22,000 with no restrictions ???..guess it varies state to state ?
I told the agent I work night shift an run the truck in the summer to work on occasion ..he said not a problem.

I insured my truck though a traditional insurance companies until is was nearly finished. Then I switched.. What is good about antique insurance companies is their price. (But they are particular to say the least)

GEICO did my '54, no hassle at all. Liability only as a driver. I doubt they would put comprehensive/collision on it though. Snake Farm does my sons '53 with an agreed value and no restrictions.

My truck is not insured yet. My only restriction with the Chevelle is that I don't ordinarily drive it to work, don't park at a mall unattended or let under 25 year old drivers use it. I choose to park inside, not because I am required to. I have to get it appraised every 5 years to determine the value. My premium is $197 per year. We have lots of choice for insurance coverage.

i have geico on all 3 of my trucks, but the 57 being the only classic. only enough to be legal. if i wreck, stolen, or fire, i lose all my money.
believe me, i have tried at least 10 different companies, and could not find one that would insure for agreed value without a garage, at least here in florida.
i even told them to charge me 1200 bucks, or more, like the full coverage i have on my 2003 s-10, but they said no.
if anyone in florida has an agreed value policy on their classic, without havign to have a garage, please let me know.

i e-mailed them this morning, and here is what he said about having to keep it in a garage...

"Yes, our underwriting regulations state the vehicle must be kept in a fully enclosed locked garage."

so, the search continues........

I'm looking for basic coverage. When the truck is totally finished I will drive it seldom, not a daily driver. I'll keep checking out insurance companies as I'm sure not everyone that has insurance parks it inside all the time.

Mercury insures my truck as a "pleasure vehicle" that's driven less than 3,000 miles per year. Liability only but thinking of adding comprehensive.
