When I got home, I found my fuel pump to have gone bad, with gas squirting out of the bottom half/on the side.
Since I'm gonna be replacing it anyway (now) I was wondering... Is it worth the extra expense to go to a dual action fuel pump?
I plan on keeping the vaccum wipers, as I've not found anyone that makes a 6-volt wiper motor that will swap straight across for a 46. I really don't want to hack up the wiper motor cover on the header.
Any of you had any experience with these dual action pumps, or had any luck finding a good 6-volt electric unit?

You might change your oil if there's a chance that gasoline got in there. I had a leaky fuel pump on a '75 Hornet which raised the level on the dipstick by a quart or two. 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. I'm impressed that your wipers would push snow. That's actually better than I was expecting.
Might be worth the extra bucks to go with the dual action pump.

The truck used half a tank of gas to go just a few miles. Had oil coming out the dipstick hole. Drained between 3 and 4 gallons out of the crankcase. By all means, go with the double action pump if you're sticking with vacuum wipers. Well worth the investment.

I put a double action pump on but have not hooked anything up yet. What do I do about the original connection on the manifold for wipers? Do I just ignore it, or will it be the same as a vaccuum leak if I don't block it off? Also, the pump has what looks like two connections for hoses. One is marked "Wiper". What is the other one for? Is it an air intake? Thanks, Allen

Other: run to original manifold (vacuum wiper) connection.

I took my vacuum motor and squirted 3-in-1 light oil in all the openings and worked the lever back and forth. That helped a lot. Like Tim said, use your manifold vacuum in series as the "fore pump" for your fuel pump. This has worked fairly well for me 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Thanks for the clarification on the plumbing of one of these units.
I'm sure that would have been one of my future posts.
Wally, my motor seems to work pretty well as is, but doesn't sound like a bad idea.
The biggest issue I have with my 46, is keeping the windshield wiper arm from flapping around in the wind, while I'm driving down the road.
The dual action pump won't help with that, but it sounds as though, I'll get alot better and more consistent service out of the wiper motor.
Sounds like I better look at doing the same to my 52, while I'm at it.
Thanks for all of the replies.
