I did a search on timing an read about a ball on the flywheel an
a hole in the housing. I did see a say 1/14 hole on the driver side when I was changing manifold gaskets is this the for mentioned Hole I need to locate the ball in?
If so where do I go from there I read 7/32" is this correct for a 55 235. Also I am not sure the age of flywheel if it is from the 53 216 will it matter?

I'm not sure why GM put a hole there, it just confuses people. You want the hole on the passenger's side, just above/behind the starter. It should have a little pointer in there if you look deep enough. I'm not sure what the 7/32" measurement is, just time it so #1 fires when the ball meets the pointer. You can probably run it advanced a few degrees from that if you want because modern gas is much higher octane than the old stuff and the compression on these engines is pretty low.
