Bought a 72 Boler trailer this afternoon and planning to tow it with my 55 second series. Trailer is fairly light and should be under 1200lbs loaded. Anyone know of an aftermarket universal assembly that is a relatively easy bolt in? I have the rear non step bumper and would like to somehow have the receiver exit below it. Looking at the universal versions at Princess Auto here in Canada but suspect somebody as adapted something.

I'm runnibg a draw tite. Pretty easy install except for the spare carrier.

I got my drawtie off craigslist. Don't have a part number, but it is probably the same one listed for 63- 90? chevy pickups. The frame rails are 34 inches apart. It fit like a glove.

That # isn't a drawtite #, I just checked...
I want one for my '58 1/2 ton.....
after some research, it's a Hidden Hitch # for a 67-87 chevy shortbox

other than drilling, any install issues I should be aware of?

I couldn't find my invoice, so I took the number directly off of the hitch. I believe it should be correct.


Not really. The hardest part was fitting the spare carrier if you have one under there.

Bought a universal unit this afternoon at our local tool/farm supply store, Princess Auto, which I believe is Canadian only. I had to enlarge one frame hole and drill 2 more at 1/2 inch for the mounting plates. The receiver part is adjustable but not to the dimension I need so will need 2 spacer plates approximately 5/8" to make up the difference. Had to remove the spare tire and holder and after I mount everything will see if I can fit it back in. Receiver opening should sit fairly close to the bottom of the bumper and slightly behind towards the differential. I will post some pictures of the final install.

Interestingly, if you go to the instructions page it says "Towing Products, Plymouth, MI", which may or may not be associated with Draw-Tite. Probably Hidden-hitch and Drawtite are brandnames of the same parent co.

No affiliation, but I have ordered lots of stuff from etrailer.com and they are fast and accurate....

Spent the day installing the receiver assy. and it turned out much better then expected. Temporarily installed everything for fitment and after moving the spare tire assembly fwd 4 1/2 inches, it will all work. The nice thing about this assy. is that the tubing curves from the brackets that bolt to the frame, to the bumper, thus allowing the spare tire carrier to fit. After looking at several different manufacturers, ie. Drawtite, all were straight, which did not allow the clearance.
I need to trim some of the brackets, and clean up the spacers before final installation. The receiver receptacle sits slightly below the bumper and just forward of the bottom edge towards the differential. Once I black out all the bolts and nuts, and with the license plate in place, it will be hardly noticeable, which was a major concern for me.
