It sounds like you need a new block at the very least. This will get more responses in the Engine & Driveline forum. So let's get this moved.

For such a common engine you'd be best to find another.

On rare and hard to find or expensive engines sleeving is an option, and preferably if you sleeve one cylinder you sleeve them all, but it's not always done that way.

Unless the hole is within 1/2" of the top or bottom of the cylinder, go ahead and sleeve it. What caused the hole- - - -maybe a broken rod or something similar? That's a very unusual failure unless something comes totally unglued.

Have your machinist use a heavy-duty sleeve, one with a 1/8" wall thickness, not 3/32" like would normally be used to recondition a cylinder. I've sleeved race engines with holes a couple of inches in diameter in a cylinder, and got normal performance out of them.

230's have a nasty habit of developing cracks in the block along the lifter bores, so if you've got a block that's OK in that area, better hang onto it and patch that cylinder.

I've got a complete 230 just sitting here if you want it. Ran when I pulled it, been under cover ever since,

if it was just a weak cyl. wall that let go i would sleave it. you can also use a 250 block as the only differince between a 250 and a 230 is the stroke. so your 230 parts would fit right in a 250 block.
