I was told by a hotrodder that when using a T-5, it has to be tipped slightly sideways to keep the OD from burning up. Were they installed on S-10's and camaros that way from the factory? I'm trying to decide on a T-5 or Saginaw for my '39 1/2 ton behind a 235. Any recommendations?

Think he might be jerkin yer chain. It will only bolt up one way. You would have to tilt the engine to make that happen. Never heard of it. Lot of these guys have been running em for years. I've got 5000 miles on mine with no problems.

Theyre straight up and down in S-10's, but tilted toward the passenger side in camaros.

i have a T-5 in mine, has been there only a few months but wish i had done years ago. i was wavering between that and a automatic. i was warned that it wouldn't work with a 2.73 nova rearend but works just fine. btw i live in flatland usa. ron

Ship's absolutely correct
tilting the T5 tranny means tilting the engine.

Richard,
This is a typical example of a mis-manufactured GM part...how dare they let this slip past the inspectors. grin grin

Thanks everybody for the imput. I thought that sounded strange but you have to ask. I'll probably use an S-10 T-5 so my next challenge will be mounting my e brake handle and petals with the master cyl. Is this an easier mod that a saginaw? Being top loaded has got to be a plus. This is new to me; I've always run bone stock stovebolts but you can't hardly drive them in todays traffic. I'm thinking a rear in the 3.73 range would pull pretty good. I don't want to cruise more than 70 and I live in flat country (Florida). Any suggestions on the rear?

I'm a little late to get on board, but I have an S10 5 speed behind my 216 in a 40 pu. I plan on putting a 235 in later. I have a rear axle out of an S10 4wd auto. It is a 3.42 ratio. The 1st gear is a little low. I think I have the 4.03 first gear trans. Not a bad combo though.

Roy - I also have the same rear available to me. Did you stay with the 5 lug? What kind of cruise speed do you have? How about you're e brake set up?

I just mentioned the ebrake in another reply. I will get under and try to get a picture and description of the hook up. I haven't driven the truck much yet. It is still a project, but it has been driven on the highway. The speedometer is not hooked up yet, so I don't know the speed for sure, but it seems to keep up. I have a dropped tube axle up front. now has 54 chev drums. This give me 5 lugs all around. did have disc brakes on it and may go back to them after i change the single master cyl. I can't decide to stay with the dropped axle or go with a must2. I have a 50 pu with a must2 under it and it steers better than the straight axle. I kind of like to keep the old time look on the 40.
