On my 52 the passenger side front fender had cracked at the roll and collapsed leaving a nice crease right above the center of the wheel opening.
My body man popped it back out and Mig welded the crack then took a pc. of 1/4" round bar stock and formed it to fit the shape of the wheel opening lip and welded it in place on the back side to keep it from happening again.

A brace of some kind to stop the work hardening & re-cracking of the metal is necessary. Time will tell whether the 1/4" bar stock used on Tim's ride is adequate. It seems a bit light to me but I hope I'm wrong.
