I got the oil filter housing with the motor. I went to NAPA yesterday & got a new oil filter for the 1955 235. I got it home and it is too small. The one in mine is 4 1/2 inches in diameter. The one from NAPA is 4 inches. My housing had the old filter in it.It is a WIX 51100 so today I went to a parts store that sells Wix & asked for the 51100 filter. They had one in stock & I took it out of the box and it is also 4 inches in diameter. Does anyone have a filter that is 4 1/2 inches in diameter? I don't know why if I have the filter number of my old one I can't get the same size. Any help is appreciated. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 33 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 33 | in my 55 235, t have used the wix 51100 since i had the truck, it is 4 inch filter but i believe it is the correct filter

Maybe someone here has a 4 1/2 and can tell me where to get one?? 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 899 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 899 | I use a Fram C4P, the dia is 4 1/4".

First off Carquest, Napa, & Wix are all the same filters. The first diget in the part number designates the supplier. Carquest start with 8. The part # for the AC cartridge is 85100. It measures 4.531 O.D. & 5 in. height. The part # for the Fram is 85006. It measures 4.156 O/D. & 5.00 height. I'm thinking they have consolidated the 2 into one part #. The AC uses a top bolt with a 5/8 wrench size. The Fram has a bolt with 7/8 wrench & a few Frams have a big wing nut on top.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. It is the correct diameter & height & has a 5/8 bolt head on top. Now to show my ignorance, what does AC stand for & where would I get one? 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I don't know what AC originally stands for but it is a division of GM that makes filters & spark plugs, etc. All filter co's make replacements that should fit. Like I say they may have consolidated the AC & FRam into one part. If you can find a parts store that has the AC line they may have the original. I think the AC part number is c-21. If the filter element seals properly at the top and bottom, the oil has to pass through the filter media, and a slightly shorter distance between the inner and outer folds of the element material won't affect how well, or how long it filters. Use either one! Jerry

Use either one! Jerry Thanks guys. Jerry, I called the WIX company & asked them if I have the old filter with the part number on it why I can't seem to get a replacement the same size. He could not tell me but said the same thing you told me. As long as the filter fits in the center it will not matter if it is 1/2 inch smaller in diameter. I will find out tomorrow night. I am going to try to fire her up for the first time. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 506 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 506 | According to the box
