I went to NAPA yesterday & got a new oil filter for the 1955 235. I got it home and it is too small. The one in mine is 4 1/2 inches in diameter. The one from NAPA is 4 inches. My housing had the old filter in it.It is a WIX 51100 so today I went to a parts store that sells Wix & asked for the 51100 filter. They had one in stock & I took it out of the box and it is also 4 inches in diameter. Does anyone have a filter that is 4 1/2 inches in diameter? I don't know why if I have the filter number of my old one I can't get the same size. Any help is appreciated.

First off Carquest, Napa, & Wix are all the same filters. The first diget in the part number designates the supplier. Carquest start with 8. The part # for the AC cartridge is 85100. It measures 4.531 O.D. & 5 in. height. The part # for the Fram is 85006. It measures 4.156 O/D. & 5.00 height. I'm thinking they have consolidated the 2 into one part #. The AC uses a top bolt with a 5/8 wrench size. The Fram has a bolt with 7/8 wrench & a few Frams have a big wing nut on top.

Like I say they may have consolidated the AC & FRam into one part. If you can find a parts store that has the AC line they may have the original. I think the AC part number is c-21.

Jerry Thanks guys. Jerry, I called the WIX company & asked them if I have the old filter with the part number on it why I can't seem to get a replacement the same size. He could not tell me but said the same thing you told me. As long as the filter fits in the center it will not matter if it is 1/2 inch smaller in diameter. I will find out tomorrow night. I am going to try to fire her up for the first time.
