There was a thread a while back about the best place to put it, I finally opted to cut into the fuel line just ahead of the carb. Job went pretty smooth, but make sure you have a good tube flaring tool available before you start. My flaring tool was a POS, & I ended up running over to NAPA for a good one. It would have made it difficult to remove the top of the Rochester carb for cleaning and servicing. Installation would have been awkward because I would have had to spin the filter body on to the pipe nipple and there is nowhere to put a wrench to tighten it. Also, I don't think that thread is 1/8" pipe or 1/4" pipe thread. A 1/4" nipple threaded in, but fit loosely. As I recall, my thread gauge said that the original fitting was 16 tpi. | | |

The really big reason is because the gas swells up the bowl gasket considerably. If you have to do a roadside filter cleaning or replacement, you will have a fresh gasket to use. The old, swollen one will shrink back to normal in a few hours, so save it. | | |
