It seamed to have sedament in the fuel bowl[it did'nt] so I cleaned it out. Now it won't run unless I pour gas in the card, then stalls out. Carb is leaking at the pivit that go through and all in all I think the carb is don for. I checked Autozone and they said @ $95. Ain't a bad price, my Ques. is what is the RIGHT carb for a 216ci. and should I stay with the rodchester? any help would be welcome, THANKS, Paul

The Rochester needs to be rebuilt on an individual basis by someone who knows how to bush the throttle shaft and take the warpage out of the air horn. Which is an exercise in futility, it will warp again.
For some excellent advice, do a search of this forum using the word rochester and the user name of carbking. He has forgotten more about these carbs than most of us have ever known.

Take the fuel line off & crank it over. It should squirt gas out. If you are pouring gas in the throat of the carb you will get some leakage at the throttle shaft. Those carbs are pretty simple. You might be able to clean it out yourself. If you get a rebuilt don,t give them the old carb till all is done & running good.

I don't want to flog a dead horse here,
but the new ignition wires and the carb problems were days apart????....it wasn't like you put on the plug wires then it wouldn't run...right!

Usually, when the vehicle runs fine before you work on an item, then doesn't run so great afterward, it's the work that was done that has caused the problem. It doesn't have to be the EXACT thing you worked on..you might have pulled an important hose off or ripped a critical wire loose or sumpin! The point I am trying to make is "cause and effect". You replaced the plug wires and now the carb doesn't work, very suspicious!! Go back and make sure all the work you did was right, THEN look for other things. Auto Zone doesn't need your hard earned money right now! Good Luck.

#50388 09/21/2005 8:38 PM | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 50 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 50 | Before anyone else makes a fool out of them selves LIKE ME, make sure to check , 1. the gas line 2. fuel pump ,3. gas filter, and last but most emporent, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GAS IN THE TANK! {Gas gage was off by 1/4 of a tank. ran out of gas just after I changed the wires!} Boy my wife is still laughfing

I have the same problem as Francis minus the empty gas tank... where would I go from here? I did the test that wrenchbender recommended (taking off the fuel line to see if it shot gas) but no luck, next I replaced inline fuel filter (thinking it was clogged) but no luck. I haven't a clue on what is going on with mine ... but is it possible I may have sucked up some crude from the gas tank into the fuel line? OR is it possible the fuel pump is bad? thanks in advance for the advice.
