I have a couple of exhaust system questions. Is there anywhere that you can buy pre-bent exhaust pipe for a '53 3100? Or at least a pattern to have someone bend it for me? Also, how many exhaust hangers were there on the original system? I'm trying to fix it stock for right now. I know Carter's has a decent muffler but I just need the specs on the rest of the system...hangers and all.

There is a muffler hanger that is attached to the frame.

There is a tail-pipe hanger that attaches to the rear-most frame rail (on a pick up).

Jim Carter sells both those parts.

Chevs of the 40s sells an exhaust system but it seems expensive if it is plain steel. They sell each part separately and they sell the hangers. Also, they have the panel-body tail pipe (it is different from the pickup tail pipe).

I was happy with Kepich Exhaust in Florida. I had a problem with one piece that was for a 250 and they replaced it. I did have to ship it back.

Call around the local exhaust shops- places that have been in business for a long time. Some of them have cards with dimensions, some have a computer program. I found a place that bent mine, I took it home and it fit perfect, and it was cheap. Get aluminized tubing if possible. I bought the stock style muffler from one of the mail order places.

I saw a resto-mod website of a 48 Ford Business Coupe or some-such where the guy used 2.5" or 3" PVC plastic pipe and fittings to mock up his exhaust from the header flanges to the tailpipe. Once you did that, you could take the assembly to a muffler shop or order the bends and straight pieces to fab your own.

Plastic pipe is cheap and easy to work with, I thought that was a pretty good idea.

Just another data point, I think the replies on this so far are more on point.

I bent up some conduit and left each end alittle long so I could make it fit exact. It worked real well for me,

I too was very happy with Kepich Exhaust after Larry refered them to me. They're actually in North Carolina now and were moving when I ordered my parts. Because of the move it took about an extra week to get the parts shipped to me, but the price was right, the quality of the parts were good, and I would definitely order from them again.

You might want to do a Google search on kepich exhaust.

I googled kepich exhaust, and would not of expected the results that I saw from my experience. I won't be too quick to recommend them next time.
