I'm looking for some help in identifing my new truck. I bought a 1951 Chevy Dump with 31,000 miles on her. Been sitting for 15 years. Started her up and is running good. Everything is in good working order. I'm not really sure what I have as far as ordering replacement parts go. Looking to see if it is a 3600,3800,4400,6400,etc.also 1 ton,1 1/2 ton or 2 ton? Serial # is 20 VE 1625. a V6 265 (1955)GWV states 16,000lbs!! Can someone help me?

The V seems to indicate a 1952 4000, 5000, or 6000 series truck. 16000 GVW should mean a 2-ton 6000 series. 20 should mean the Los Angeles factory. There should be another letter for the month. Maybe this link will help 52 Chevy . If not look at the other Chevy manuals online at that site. What kind of door handles does it have? Does it have vent windows in the doors? Pull down outside handles with vents are unique to 51. Push button door handle started in 52 thru 66. Give us some more clues and maybe we can help you figure it out. What does the title say?

Door handles go down and have vent windows which tells me they are 51 doors. You think it is a 2 ton though and a 6400 sries?

Also this truck was used on a grave yard property by the city. Never reg. or titled then sold to a used car dealership in early 1960's till 1985. Dealer plates were used for snow removal only. This is why the low milage. Title issues have been solved by me. But sill need more info.

Some states used the serial number as the VIN, and some used the engine ID as the VIN. It can be found next to the distributor.

The serial # states 16,000lbs GWV and # 20 VE 1625. Engine # is identified as a 261 V6. I've been told that it is a 2 ton 6000 series. Door handles go down with vented windows. Is this a 6000,6100,6400, or something else? Help

It's not going to be a 261 V6 but an I6 - Inline. Great motor by the way. Congrats!! The wheelbase also dictates the series. 6100 is short-wheelbase (137"). That will measure 60" CA (back of Cab to rear Axle). 6400 is long-wheelbase (161") - 84 CA. I think that was your choices from 47-52 or 53. By 54 there was an even longer 6500. Again, checkout this site. Good luck and Have fun.

Frank. What about replacement of the fenders. Are they the same as the 3/4 & 1 ton fenders? What should I measure?

No. The "big" trucks - 1 1/2 and 2-ton - have larger fenders, hoods and grilles to cover the larger tires. I don't know how to tell you to measure them. Same cab as pickups though. You'll have to find another 4100, 4400, 6100, 6400, etc. truck for those parts. Try posting in the Big Bolts forum. Make yourself acquainted over there. The big truck guys are all helpful and friendly. Check out the Swap Meet too.

How about the inside and outer cowl parts for the fenders of a 2 Ton 6100. Are they available somewhere? Mine are pretty rusted.

The cowl parts are part of the cab and they should be the same as the 1/2 Ton. Outer, inner and inner to outer cowl parts are available from all the major classic truck suppliers. Some of them are listed in the links on this site.
