O.k., I've got a '46 that's been put onto s10 running gear if that's important. It currently has a heater out of a '56 pickup, if I remember what the previous owner told me correctly. It's started leaking badly, and, as I thought it only worked marginally, I figured this would be a good time to replace it with one that'll run me out of the cab. Does anybody have any recommendations? I don't care about A/c, but the little one (age 2 &1/2 going on 18) likes to ride in heated comfort, and doesn't understand why we're not driving her "twuck" .

It is a small easy to install unit that throws a lot of heat in the cab, but when ya close up the hand operated doors to direct the flow of air to the defrosters the unit doesnt perform that well keeping the glass clean.
Just my review on the product.

I don't know about availability for you guys over the pond,but I'm planning to use one from a MkII Austin Mini.(I suppose you could try ebay)

My original heater core in my AD is shot and I can't find anyone over here to rebuild it.

The Mini one is a small self contained unit and will be more than enough to heat my cab.You can hook up the demist too.

A buddy of mine had one in his '52....it was just the job!

Thanks guys. After talking with some guys over at the jalopy journal's H.A.M.B. forum and reviewing their solutions, I think I'm going to try the Flex-a -lite mojave heater. Some of the guys are running them in roadsters and full size sedans and from what I've read, they get hot enough that they have to turn them down. It should be more than enough heat for the '46's tiny cab- I hope so, as I like my heat!

I also have one on the shelf that was supposed to go into a tractor cab, but it doesn't have a nice box

Just thought I'd drop a note to let anyone looking for an aftermarket heater know about my experience replacing my heater. As I posted before, I had decided on a Flex- A- Lite Mojave heater. While surfing the web to find the best price (I'm a cheapskate) I found that Summit Racing sold both the Flex-A-Lite brand, which is plastic, and a store brand that was made of metal. Since the specs showed the store brand out performing the name brand, and the store brand was $130 vs $160 for the name brand, I bought the store brand. I can't recommend it enough. It puts out so much heat, the devil would feel at home within two miles. It's a really solidly constructed, compact little unit too- bolted right up on the firewall under the dash. I'm very pleased, just wish I'd done this at the first of the winter instead of the end of it!
