Installing T5 in 66 C10, I have been running cast iron trannys without a rear crossmenber, will the t5 need a rear support? and what have options have been used for this? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | There is no need for a transmission support on a 66 with bellhousing mounts.

But I shure would put something under there. You can buy crossmembers for that or bolt in a piece of steel with a trans. mount on it. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 734 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 734 | I've been driving my '65 for a few weeks now and it seems pretty good. I do get a little vibration at higher speeds and rpms. Not sure if it's because there's no mount other than bellhousing or if because I'm using a Camaro T5 and the shifter's all the way aft on tail housing. I do know there were/are 2 factory mounts for the tail housing on Camaro's to steady it. One was a crossmember and the other came straight from the back and attached to a weird bracket/mount. I'm sure the S10's have some sort of mount as well and that got me thinkin' I should come up with one. The one I've been fabricating runs fore/aft and will mount to the parking brake crossmember and the bellhousing crossmember. I'm hoping this will steady out some of the vibration. I'm a couple days away from completion as I had to change my design slightly. Even if it does nothing for the very minimal vibration, I'll still be happy to have a mounting point. It just seems weird to have that much tranny sticking out and only mounted to bellhousing. Peace of mind I guess. -David Kustoms-and-Sleds | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | I have done about 8 of these conversions some have been on the road for as long as six years all with no crossmember. No problems.
