I just finished installing new brake lines and wheel cyl.s, as well as a new power brake canister, and dual chamber master cyl on my 1 ton 66 C30. I have two lines coming up to the master. One for the front brakes, and one for the rears. I have kept the original drum brakes front and rear, and used the same size lines as it had from the factory. My question is, which brake line goes to the forward most chamber (closest to the front of truck) and which goes to the rear most chamber???.........or does it matter??? Thanks!

kerry,
here is an article i found

http://www.mpbrakes.com/uploads/documents/mcplumbingpdf.pdf

i just tried laying under my 57 and see how i plumbed it, but my truck is too low and need to jack it up to see. LOL.
and mine has a factory style prop valve, and im running front discs, so not sure if mine would be the same as yours anyway.

hope this article helps.

I did the same thing on my 55, and it DOES matter. I had hooked it up then looked at the directions. I cannot remember off hand which one goes where. I will check when I get home in an hour and let you know. Check through the instructions that came with the power brake booster, I remember it wasn't the easiest thing to find! Go figure!

My booster didn't come with any directions!......Thanks for looking guys! I'm all ready to button it up, and bleed the system, but want to be sure I've got it plumbed right first.

Usually one reservoir in the master cylinder is larger than the other. The larger one is for the front brakes on a disc - drum setup. Not sure but I think it is the same on drum - drum setups.

with four wheel drum brakes i think the master cylinder resovoirs are of equal size, so theoretically it wouldn't make any difference, i would hook front wheels to front of master, and backs to the back, if fluid level loss was apparent you would know which axle to look at

The reservoir closest to the booster goes to the front brakes, the farthest one forward goes to the rear,

Actually, the master cyl. that I purchased, was part of a kit to convert a 1/2 ton to front disk. I never used it, and am working on a different truck now......a C30, with all four drums. Therefore the master should still work, but it may have one chamber designated for the front, and one for the rear? It had a proportioning valve attached to it, which I removed, as I was told I didn't need it for four drums. It would make sense that the closest to the booster would be the first to get pressure as the pedal goes down, so that should go to the front correct???

ok, with that explanation, yes, the large port closest to the booster will be for the front.

A MC designed for disc front/drum rear is different from a MC designed for drum/drum. It may be in the size of the piston, the internal residual valving, the push rod travel, or all of the above. You may have problems with it no matter which line you use where.

I can't open the link to MP brake. I even went to their website, and my computer will not let me open them! Now Fred has me all bummed out about my MC possibly not working with a drum/drum set-up. Are you speaking from experience Fred, or are you taking an educated guess? Can anyone else enlighten me on this matter? It's the "great unknown" for me..........

About 40 years of experience including some trial & error. You should be able to get the correct dual MC from your local parts store for about $50.
Your existing booster should be OK.
