Hi,I have been enjoying this site for a while but have just joined because I'm getting serious about pulling the trigger on a '50 3600. I'm amazed at the collective knowledge contained within the members of this site (and humbled) I, like most of you have fallen in love with these trucks especially the AD series. I have found a 1950 3600 that I am itching to buy I just need a little help with reality maybe. I actually intend to drive this vehicle approximately 2-3 times per month as a work truck. While I prefer the 3600 for the longer bed it seems that there are a nymber of factors that make a 3600 less functional. There seems to be a lo less conversion parts for brakes and transmissions/differentials that make the truck less "modern" in it's drivability. I would like to be able to drive this truck distances of approximately 40 miles per trip and it would be a bonus to achieve 55-60 for short runs on highway.
This truck has a 235 in it which seems like a plus.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

dont kid yourself. The 3600 differential center section is swappable up to 72. Any transmission change for a 3100 works with a 3600.

HEI, etc for making it driveable.

There are a few disc brake kits

Welcome to the 'bolt

Welcome Jfergvt, I havent done much with the 3600's,,i'm partial to the 1/2 tons myself. But, theres plenty of 3/4 tonners here that will be able to pretty much answer any question you can come up with.
Youve come to the right place for your future project.
Enjoy the ride. Good Luck,
Marty

Welcome to the 'bolt, jfergvt cool

Maybe a.d.-hawk will jump in here soon. He's working on a 3/4 ton & is well informed about the differences ($$$).

We're on our second '54, this one is a 3/4 ton for our daughter & yes, we're seeing the elevated costs and scarcity of certain things.

You are in the right place. There is no better group of knowledgeable and nice folks wave

It's good to have you smile Let the journey begin! I won't be one with much technical advice but I'll sure provide moral support grin

P.S. I'm happy for you that you bought your truck. You can also be an official Stovebolter with just being a fanatic about this neat old iron dance

welcome aboard. i have a '52 3600 here in the uk which i have put a diesel engine and 5 speed manual transmission in. 16 inch wheels with 750/16 tyres.wow !!!!! cruise at 65-70 mph no problem, bearing in mind that's plenty fast in one of these, returning me approx 28-32 miles to the gallon.
feel free to ask any questions.

Naturally I like a 50 3600 (see my signature). No reason you can't drive it 55-60 if road conditions allow. Especially with a 235. Plenty of parts still available at NAPA and other local auto parts stores. Search these forums for threads on disc brakes and other upgrades. If it is a solid truck without too much rust. Go For It!! wink
