I would like to get rid of the points in the distributer. I have seen some good and some bad about Pertonix. Is the only other option to buy the $355.00 HEI distributer from the guy on e-bay? He says he is the only one that has the correct distrubuter that will drive the oil pump. I find this hard to believe. Has anybody used anything else? I need some suggestion, or should I just get Pertronix?

Check Tom Langdon for the HEI distributor. I prefer it over the Pertronix because if you have a part failure and you're on the road, you can get replacement parts for the HEI distributor. Where will you find a replacement Pertronix. The alternative to a failed Pertronix unit is to stick your old points pieces back in.

If I remember correctly, the Landon distributor is a S-10 unit. I've already replaced one part in mine without any problems.

I have been using Pertronix on my MGA for about 10 years with out a problem. I was concerned about a failure so I bought a spare that has been in the tool box in the trunk for 10 years.

I bought a 12v Pertronix unit for $65 about 10 years ago and a 6v Pertronix unit about 5 years ago. I also bought a complete rebuilt distributor for $69 as a back-up "spare" (about 5 years ago). The distributor came with points, condenser, and cap - I have added a spare vacuum-advance unit.

I have been carrying the rebuilt distributor as a Pertronix back-up when I go on a long trip with either truck. Never had to use the backup but it's nice to know I have it.

i got an hei out of a 250 and mod. it . the instructions are in the tech tips. i think i ended up with just over 100 bucks in mine with a new module and new wires. i tried the pertronics
im my old tractors they dont last.

Same here as philipt. I also puled my HEi out of a '79 250. Mods are pretty easy to do.

Thanks for the tips guys, I decided to purchase Langdons mini HEI. I am not that good at modifying so I decided to let the professional do it. I can't wait to get it installed.

Langdon's HEI (not the mini) at $95 is a real bargain and it includes the GM coil. Will make your engine fire first time every time.

I received Langdon's Mini-HEI. I installed it and the so truck starts and idles much better. I have to come up with a way to mount the square coil he sent. I think I will use some C-channel and mount it in the original location of the old coil unless someone has a better idea.
