Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 50 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 50 | I have a 52 1/2 ton, have no idea besides under the seat where a jack & lug wrench were originally ? My truck has no bracket or parts anywhere in it ?
Please send me a photo of original location showing jack, wrench, etc. thanks | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 428 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 428 | I don't have much to offer here. From what I gather the lug wrench and jack just floated around under the seat. I will be interested in what others have to say, as I have a 52 as well. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | Jimmie D has it right, bottle jack and handle, and lug wrench under the seat. Other small tools were stored under the seat in one of two styles of tool bags (this is one of the styles). The small tools were: "a set of three open-end wrenches, a spark plug wrench, a 6” round shank screw driver, a 6” pair of pliers, and a 10 oz ball peen hammer. All of these were rust protected by plating except for the hammer which was painted. A new wheel wrench, also painted, was provided. In addition, a jack of suitable capacity - 2500 lbs for ½ and ¾ ton models, 3000 lbs capacity for one-ton models - was provided, with a jack handle for the 3100, 3600 and 3800 series jacks and a tire changing iron which also was used as a jack handle for the heavier duty models."The small tools were made either by Vlchek or McKaig-Hatch. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Yeah but,,,, were the back O' tools, jack, handle and lug wrench just thrown loosely under the seat? I think that's what Jimmy D was looking for and I've had the same question on my mind ever since I found out where the "tool box" was located. I bought some foam a while back and was gonna cut out some pockets in it to hold it all and keep it from rattling round under the seat, rather, in the "tool box". Denny G

Do you think that the bottle jack, jack handle, and wheel-lug wrench had their own special tool box/bog? I do not know for sure, but my guess in no box/bag (except for the small tools).
Also, it should be noted that sometime in 1949, all tools except for jack and wheel wrench, were discontinued.
Do you wonder why so few of those tools remain in the trucks 50-60 years later?

My Grandfather (1898 to 1962) had just about every brand of car or truck at one time or another, and he kept the tools in this black leather satchel. It looks like an old time doctors bag, but soft sided and no compartments inside. I know we focus on Chevy, but has anyone seen anything like that at a meet or car show? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 1,300 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 1,300 | Wow! talk about a flashback. I started working for an office machine dealership in late 77. They had been around since 1938. The original tool kit that they gave me to carry was very similar to what you described that your grandfather carried. Sort of like the old doctor's bags you saw carried in the days when doctors would make house calls. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 50 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 50 | Thanks guys, wow, my dad had some of those style wrenches in his box, thanks again. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 | is that the original style jack in the picture? if so i have one and didn't know it. i have had the truck for so long i can't remember what came with it.
