The suppliers I have tried told me to just use a lawnmower cable. Problem is-- how would you attach the upper shaft and knob to a plain cable? Why wouldn't they just stock them in a longer length and let the little truck guys cut them to fit? What year coe is it that you have?
I just purchased one for my 53 GMC COE from Jim Carter. I will add what ever I may need with a cupler.

When I was looking to replace my cables for my truck I think I found generic cables, maybe even from a lawn equipment parts house and bought the knobs form Jim Carters. If I figure out my cable source I will let you know. I believe, I may have a NOS '47-'53 Choke cable, out in the shop, if you're interested.

They were pretty dinky and they dont stay squared in the ends letting the knobs spin which ever way they want.
At some point Ill replace them with better cables and buy a few knobs to complete them.
