Hello everyone. I was a Stovebolter in my younger days and didnt know it and now that I have gained the sickness again I figured this was the proper place to be.

I am currently driving a 50 Chevy 1/2 ton 5 window as my daily driver now. It is all original 216 6volt 3 spd on old 6.50 x 16 bias rubber. Currently sporting a flashy off white and grey primer motif. I have owned this beast since this past summer and finaly got it on the road 1 day before our coldest day in 20 years. Thank goodness for block heaters. My boys nic'd the truck as Cranky Ol Joe so figured was a good nic for me here.

In the garage I also have a 55 1st Series project that has been sitting for 15 years that I have restarted the build on.

My first vechile as a 55 GMC 2nd series that I had so many years ago where i learned to drive the hills with a std and of course vacuum wipers in the rainy season. It was fun truck (I am blocking all the memerioes of fixing said wipers and shift linkage during the Soggy Season on the coast of BC)

I hope to gather more info along the way with my project and knowledge on the 50.

Thanks

Hey Cranky, welcome to the site. Once a stovebolter, always a stovebolter. Nothing wrong with those old bias ply tires, I have them too, except mine just gets pushed around from one bay in the garage to the other. Sounds like you may be quite familiar with these old beasts, but in case you forgot something or need to learn something, just snoop around the different forums and others will be sure to help you out.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.
Everytime I head to the coast, there are a couple places i stop at to see what other trinkets I can get/afford.
At some ponit I am needing a stock spare tire/wheel combo if anyone has 1 kicking around. I tried phoning the local wreckers and tire stores here and mostly got amusing responses.

Gotta say since I started driving ol cranky around , it gets alot of stares and good comments.

At some point I will get a photobucket account to post some photos of the ol guy

Again Thanks

Cranky Joe-

I could only see one photo but from what I could see (pix was small), that bed looks flawless and that five window cab looks pretty solid thumbs_up

Good job on both the bed and the pix Maybe you can 'copy and paste' the web address at the top of your album page & then we could see the whole thing.

Thanks for sharing.

Here we go I hope this time should be the album to date though there was more work done before the cold weather hit so as of yet I dont have those pic's in album.

The bed has been done in pine and stained dark cherry. Joe still needs a new tailgate as the old one is way too far ratty to be straight'nd plus the cost of a new one is so cheap that its not worth the time spent on old one to straighten it out.

Joe is now sporting a new rear bumper and tail lights. The new front bumper is sitting in the garage till it warms up.

The "new" roof was welded in place and body work done and put into primer. The outter drip rails are welded up but the inner trim rail is still waiting to go back on.

On the inside the seat was recovered to orginal style material and the guages refurbished and dash painted black for now.
Waiting on the headliner too. And put in a new rubber floor mat as I figured that carpet just would not look orginal in there.

Replaced all the weatherstrip rubber on the front and rear windows when they went back in. man alive I forgot what it was like to install the windshield. Good thing for a couple of friends, soap, and good string for pulling the rubber around the body edge. The front window stainless trim was also fun to install.

You may have to cut and paste the link but it should get you to my album and I will hunt up some more pics.

Ps: Family and I are headed to Van next weekend Feb 6-7 and I will be popping into a couple shops to see what I can get next. May have a chance to see some of the local bolters

Unfortantly we will not be in Joe but in the other brand suv as Joe will not make the trip over the hills yet with 4 of us.

Which has led me to this idea that my wife says is crazy as I have 2 trucks now to work on and dont need any more (silly her).

Any ideas out there on a crew cab AD. Is this a silly pipe dream of mine or is this something that could be worked out and look nice , not just a hack job? I had a 05 chev crew that went back when the lease ended and am fancy on the idea of a crew in the old style. A Burb might be the best start to this? Again any ideas if this would be workable?

I am also thinking of a COE for the store as my delivery truck but momma says too many things at once is no good.

I kinda hasve to agree there only in that I am filling the driveway with my current items
