I have put a red oval around what I think is a govenor, can someone verify this for me? If it is...why would you use one of these types of devices? How does it work? On heavy-work trucks, this protects the engine from over-revving under high loads at low speeds. I believe that you are able to remove this device with no adverse side affects (except losing the over-revving protection). Most all of these trucks are equipped with very low(slow)
Rear Ends. Won't take much over revving to spin a Rod bearing or worse.
A well maintained,good working Governor is a must.
Just my opinion.
The little wheel on the right of your picture should have a seal wire through it.
You rotate the wheel to increase or decrease Max. RPM.
Use a tach/dwell meter to set at factory spec's.
