Since the '88 to '98 trucks can now be bought pretty cheap I'm wondering why you would want to swap to the older platform?
I'm imagining it only makes sense if you want a solid axle four-wheel-drive, and the '87 happens to be one, but you may have an even better reason.

I have a solid axle 87 with a good running chassis and crappy body. I have a 94 2wheel drive with a perfect body and paint. I though the 92 might make a good chassis for under a 57 suburban. I guess the point is that I have them, so what can I do with them. The later trucks have a tapered chassis design, as well as a different cab mounting system. The front bed mount and rear cab mount are 1 peice. Depending on what body the later truck is, there may also be a wheelbase discrepancy.
